Description

Function and technical context

This 90º male/female elbow in naval bronze allows you to change the direction of the pipe layout in onboard installations, facilitating the sudden turn of the pipe without the need to bend the pipe. Being made of naval bronze, it offers exceptional resistance to marine corrosion, both in salt water and in high humidity environments typical of the nautical environment. It is commonly used in seawater cooling circuits, bilge systems, fuel circuits, live water intakes and other fluid lines on board where a 90º change of direction is necessary. The combination of male end and female end with 1/2" NPT or BSP thread allows direct connection with other fittings, valves or hoses of the same diameter without additional adapters. Their degradation or failure can cause leaks in critical circuits, loss of flow and, in the case of cooling circuits, engine overheating.

When to replace this part?

Naval bronze elbows should be inspected when visible signs of heavy corrosion appear (pitting, advanced vert or scaling), when microdrops or persistent moisture are detected on threaded joints, or after any intervention in which adjacent piping has been dismantled. In saltwater installations with intensive use, it is recommended to check all threaded fittings and elbows during each seasonal maintenance, since galvanic and thread fatigue can cause cracks not visible to the naked eye. Preventively replacing a damaged elbow is a low-cost measure that prevents breakdowns due to leaks while sailing and protects the integrity of the boat's hydraulic and cooling systems.
