Description

Function and technical context

This 45º female/female elbow in AISI 316 stainless steel is used to change the direction of pipes in nautical plumbing installations, seawater cooling systems, bilge circuits, fuel pipes or on-board water evacuation lines. The 45º angle allows the pipe to be diverted smoothly, reducing pressure loss and turbulence in the fluid compared to a 90º elbow, which is especially valuable in circuits where flow or pressure are critical factors. The female thread on both ends, measuring 3/4 inch, facilitates direct connection to standard male threaded pipes, fittings or accessories. AISI 316 stainless steel, with its greater resistance to chloride corrosion compared to AISI 304, makes it the appropriate technical choice for saltwater and aggressive marine environments, where conventional materials degrade quickly.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate the need to replace a threaded elbow in nautical installations are: visible leaks in the threaded joints, pitting or surface corrosion that compromises the integrity of the accessory wall, or deformation of the thread that prevents correct and watertight tightening. On boats that operate in salt water or that remain in the water for a long time, it is recommended to inspect all stainless steel threaded accessories during each seasonal maintenance, checking the condition of the threads and the absence of cracks. Preventively replacing any accessory with signs of galvanic corrosion or damaged thread prevents navigation breakdowns and costly emergency interventions.
