Ball Valve AISI 316 Stainless Steel 1 1/4"
Description
Function and technical context
AISI 316 stainless steel ball valves are essential flow control and shut-off components in marine plumbing installations, seawater cooling systems, bilge emptying circuits, seacocks and onboard fuel lines. The female/female connection in size 1 1/4" allows its direct integration with threaded pipes of that nominal diameter, facilitating assembly without additional adapters. AISI 316 stainless steel—known as marine steel par excellence—incorporates molybdenum in its composition, which gives it resistance to corrosion by chlorides and salt water much higher than 304 steels, guaranteeing reliability and durability in environments of high chemical aggressiveness such as those found below the waterline. A faulty seal in any of these circuits can cause water to enter the hull, loss of coolant or failures in the extinguishing system, with serious consequences for the safety of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a ball valve in poor condition are persistent dripping on the body or ball seats even with the valve closed, binding of the rotary handle that prevents complete closing or opening, and the appearance of reddish rust or visible pitting on the valve body, a sign that the steel has lost its passive layer of protection. It is recommended to inspect and activate all bottom and service valves at each seasonal maintenance to detect stiffness or incipient leaks before launching. Replacing a damaged valve preventively at the dock is a simple and economical operation that avoids emergency interventions in navigation or, in the worst case, an uncontrolled entry of water.
