The anti-siphon valve, also known as a vented loop or siphon in nautical environments, is a critical safety component in marine toilet installations and pumping systems located below the waterline. Its main function is to prevent the reverse siphon effect that could cause the uncontrolled entry of sea water into the interior of the hull, either through the toilet circuit or the suction line of a pump. The internal membrane or valve seat can become clogged with lime, organic residues or become deformed due to prolonged exposure to cleaning chemicals and UV rays, so it is recommended to check its operation during each seasonal maintenance and replace it if there is any sign of rigidity, cracks in the plastic body or passage of water in the closed position.
