Function and technical context

The PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) cloth is a high-performance cleaning and drying accessory designed specifically for nautical use, where constant exposure to salt water, fuels and oils requires materials with a much higher absorption capacity than a conventional cloth. Its porous PVA structure allows it to retain several times its own volume in liquid, which is especially useful for drying decks, bilges, upholstery and fiberglass or metal surfaces after docking maneuvers or rain. When to replace this part?

With continued use and exposure to cleaning products, fuel, or salt water, PVA cloth can lose elasticity, become stiff when dry, or develop tears that reduce its absorbency and drying effectiveness. It is recommended to inspect it at the beginning and end of each nautical season, replacing it when it presents tears, loss of consistency or persistent bad odor that indicates degradation of the material. Renewing the cloth preventively ensures effective drying of the boat and prevents residual moisture from causing rust, mold or damage to sensitive surfaces.
