Description

Function and technical context

This three-way Y-type ball valve made of high-resistance nylon allows you to divert, combine or interrupt the flow of liquids in on-board installations, acting as a directional control element in bilge systems, marine toilets, fresh or salt water tanks and on-board auxiliary circuits. Its three-way design makes it possible to simultaneously connect several pipes and select the direction of flow by simply turning the lever, making it a versatile solution for redistributing flows without the need for additional valves. The high-strength nylon used in its construction offers excellent tolerance to marine corrosion, salt water and common boat cleaning products, guaranteeing long-lasting watertightness in permanent installations below the waterline or in wet areas of the hull. If the valve loses its tightness or becomes blocked, there may be uncontrolled entry of water into the bilges, malfunction of the bilge system or cross-contamination between tanks, with the safety consequences that this implies on board.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of deterioration in a marine plastic ball valve are leaks from the lever or connection joints, difficulty in turning or locking in the desired position, and visible microcracks in the body caused by pressure cycles or prolonged exposure to UV rays. It is recommended to visually inspect the valve during each seasonal maintenance, checking the correct actuation of the ball and the absence of play in the connection threads. Preventively replacing a valve with signs of rigidity or microcracks avoids critical breakdowns in navigation, especially in bilge circuits where a failure can compromise the buoyancy of the boat.
