ANODO CONICO HAMILTON JET Ø33 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The conical zinc anode for Hamilton Jet with a diameter of 33 mm is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for water jet propulsion systems of the Hamilton Jet brand. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal, oxidizing in a controlled manner to protect the metal parts of the propulsion assembly - impellers, casing and shaft components - against galvanic corrosion caused by continuous contact with salt or brackish water. The conical geometry of this anode facilitates its precise installation in the corresponding housing of the Hamilton Jet system, guaranteeing optimal electrical contact with the structure to be protected. Without effective cathodic protection, noble metals in the propellant suffer accelerated corrosion, which can lead to pitting, impeller erosion, and costly structural failures.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at the beginning and end of each nautical season, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a very irregular surface or have fragmented. In boats that usually navigate in salt water or in areas with high electrical conductivity, wear can occur in a single season or even sooner, so it is advisable to check the condition of the anode every time the boat goes aground. Preventatively replacing the anode before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to prevent corrosion of expensive Hamilton Jet propellant components.
