Description
Function and technical context
The conical zinc anode for Hamilton Jet with a diameter of 33 mm is a cathodic protection element designed specifically for waterjet propulsion systems of the Hamilton Jet brand. Its function is to act as a sacrificial metal, attracting galvanic and electrolytic corrosion that would otherwise attack the noble metal parts of the propulsion assembly: the rotor, stator, casing and shaft of the unit. Being made of zinc (ZN), it is especially suitable for vessels that operate in salt or brackish water, environments where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive and intense. The conical geometry of this anode guarantees a precise and secure fit at the mounting point intended by Hamilton Jet, ensuring maximum metallic contact and, therefore, maximum protective effectiveness on the critical components of the drive system.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each boating season, and replaced when they have lost approximately half their mass or show irregular erosion, cracks, or grayish-white hardened areas that indicate zinc depletion. In Hamilton Jet units that operate continuously or in especially corrosive waters, it is recommended to perform an intermediate check in the middle of the season. Replacing the anode preventively before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the rotor and other waterjet components, whose repair or replacement involves a much higher cost.
