ANODO TIMON PAR Ø 130mm (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
Rudder anodes act as sacrificial cathodic protection in the rudder area of the vessel, attracting electrolytic corrosion and preserving the structural integrity of the blade and its adjacent metal components. This pair of 130mm diameter aluminum anodes is designed to be installed directly on the rudder shaft or stock, forming a galvanic barrier that protects stainless steel, bronze and other noble metals against marine corrosion. Cathodic protection in this area is critical, since the rudder works in continuous immersion and is exposed to eddy currents, potential differences between metals and the aggressiveness of salt water; If the anodes are exhausted without being replaced, corrosion advances rapidly on the rudder, pinion and bushings, compromising the maneuverability and safety of the boat.
When to replace this part?
Aluminum rudder anodes should be inspected at least once a season, generally during the annual beaching, and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a very rough surface or are fragmented, since below that mass level they do not guarantee effective protection. Signs that the anode is depleted include the appearance of pitting or rust spots on the rudder stock, corrosion of the hardware, or increasing difficulty in moving the rudder due to deterioration of the bushings. Replacing the entire pair preventively at each grounding avoids costly shipyard repairs due to damage to the rudder or steering components, in addition to ensuring safe navigation throughout the season.
