ANODO TIMON PAR Ø Ø70mm (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
The rudder anode in pair for Ø70 mm shafts made of aluminum alloy is part of the boat's cathodic protection system, acting as an electrochemical sacrifice to preserve the most valuable submerged metal parts. Mounted directly on the rudder shaft, this anode protects the pintle, the knuckles and the rudder blade itself against galvanic corrosion generated by the potential difference between different metals in contact with sea or brackish water. The aluminum alloy makes it especially suitable for navigation in marine and brackish waters, offering superior protection efficiency to zinc anodes in these conditions. When sold in pairs, a balanced and symmetrical protection of the shaft is guaranteed, correctly covering the protection perimeter required for a diameter of 70 mm.
When to replace this part?
The rudder anodes should be inspected at least once a season, usually coinciding with the annual beaching of the boat. The clearest sign that the anode has reached its useful life is the loss of between 50 and 70% of its mass: when the anode appears very reduced, irregularly eroded or with areas of exposed live metal without surface protection, its immediate replacement is essential. On vessels sailing in areas of high electrical conductivity or with on-board electrical installations with eddy currents, wear can be significantly faster, which is why it is recommended to check the condition of the anodes every six months. Preventively replacing the pair of rudder anodes before putting it into the water prevents the rudder pintle or knuckles from suffering corrosion pits that would lead to high-cost repairs in the dock.
Compatibility table
| Aplicación | Detalle |

Note: This anode is universally applicable for rudder shafts with a diameter of 70 mm. Consult your shipyard or naval mechanic if you have questions about the exact measurement of your shaft.
