ANODO OVAL SOLDAR 100X Ø60mm (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
This 100ר60 mm oval zinc anode is designed to be welded directly onto hulls, keels, rudders or any submerged metal structure requiring cathodic protection. Its function is to act as an electrochemical sacrifice: being a less noble metal than steel, aluminum or bronze, it concentrates galvanic and electrolytic corrosion on itself, preserving the vital surfaces of the boat intact. It works within the hull's cathodic protection system, a passive but absolutely critical system in marine environments where the potential difference between different metals can degrade structures in a few weeks. Absence or depletion of anodes causes pitting, thinning and punctures in the hull, shaft or propeller that can compromise the safety and structural integrity of the vessel.
When to replace this anode?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass; Waiting for them to be completely consumed leaves the helmet unprotected for weeks or months. Clear signs that cathodic protection is insufficient include visible pitting on aluminum propellers, shafts or hulls, as well as accelerated electrolysis on valve or thru-hull brasses. The professional recommendation is to renew all the anodes when taking the boat ashore at the end of each season, thus guaranteeing complete protection throughout the following sailing period without the risk of being left unprotected in the middle of the campaign.
