Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are the first galvanic protection shield of any boat: they absorb electrolytic corrosion before it attacks the structural metal surfaces of the swim platform. This specific aluminum (AL) kit is designed for 100 mm platforms, protecting the hardware, screws and metal structure of the platform against galvanic corrosion produced by the potential difference between different metals submerged in salt or brackish water. The aluminum alloy composition makes it especially effective in salty and brackish waters, where the corrosion rate is more aggressive, and it is lighter and less polluting than zinc anodes, and is also mandatory in many ports due to environmental regulations.

When to replace this part?

Aluminum platform anodes should be visually inspected at least at the beginning and end of each boating season: when the anode has lost more than 50% of its mass or has a completely eroded and disintegrated surface, it is essential to replace it immediately so that the cathodic protection remains effective. A depleted anode leaves the platform hardware and structure exposed to accelerated corrosion that can compromise the mechanical integrity of the anchors and result in costly shipyard repairs; Replacing it preventively at the beginning of each season is the practice recommended by naval mechanics to guarantee continuous protection of the assembly.
