The Yamaha 6E8-45251-00 anode is a cathodic protection component designed to safeguard the cooling circuit of the 9.9 hp outboard motor. This element acts as a defensive barrier against galvanic corrosion that occurs when seawater comes into contact with the metal parts of the engine block and cylinder head. By preferentially oxidizing the anode rather than the structural components of the propellant, it prevents corrosion of the internal water galleries, flanges and cooling passages, which are critical to maintaining the thermal and mechanical integrity of the engine.
