Function and technical context

The TEN01114 anode is a sacrificial part designed to protect the metal components of Yamaha engines against galvanic corrosion in salt and freshwater environments. This element works in the protection system of the engine block, heat sinks and cooling pipe, where it is directly exposed to contact with water. By preferentially oxidizing to other metals in the engine, the anode prevents the deterioration of critical parts such as cylinders, casings and internal passages, significantly extending the useful life of the propeller and preventing leaks, loss of airtightness and premature failure of internal seals.

When to replace this part?

The anode requires visual inspection at least once per boating season, especially if the engine is used in salt water where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive. Symptoms of advanced wear include visible erosion of the anode, whitish or greenish deposits in the mounting area, and the appearance of rust on adjacent parts, indicators that it has lost its protective capacity. It is recommended that the anode be replaced preventively before it is completely depleted, as a depleted anode immediately exposes the engine block to accelerated corrosion, with the risk of internal leaks and costly off-site repairs.
