Sacrificial anodes are essential components in the cathodic protection of the cooling system of Yamaha marine engines. Installed in the freshwater chamber of the engine block, these anodes corrode in a controlled manner instead of the aluminum and steel of the engine, preventing galvanic oxidation that would degrade the internal walls and cooling pipes. When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes are progressively consumed during each saltwater boating season; A visual inspection will reveal noticeable reduction of material or irregular surface erosion. It is recommended to replace this anode kit at least once per season of intensive use, or sooner if a loss of more than 50% of its mass is detected.
