This aluminum anode kit is part of the Yamaha marine engine's cathodic protection system, acting as a sacrificial barrier against galvanic corrosion in salt and freshwater environments. The anodes degrade in a controlled manner to safeguard critical metal parts of the engine block, crankcase, cooling pipes and internal components from accelerated oxidation. Without anodes in good condition, the noblest metals of the propeller suffer deep corrosion that compromises sealing, promotes coolant leaks and deteriorates the structural integrity of the engine in a matter of months of intensive navigation.

When to replace this part?

The progressive wear of the anode is visible by direct inspection: if you observe significant volume loss, spot corrosion on blocks and cylinder heads, or whitish rust deposits in the water pipes, the anode has lost effectiveness. It is recommended to check the condition of the anodes at the beginning of each sailing season and replace the complete kit when approximately 50% of its mass has been consumed. Preventive replacement at the beginning of the summer season avoids costly emergency repairs while boating and ensures full protection during the months of maximum water exposure.
