Description

Function and technical context

The 14.0 x 9-inch Rubex 3-D aluminum propeller is the direct propulsion element that transforms the power of the marine engine into hydrodynamic thrust. Mounted on the tail shaft of the boat, it works in the marine transmission system, driven by the outboard or stern motor through the gear reducer. The three-blade design of this propeller distributes the workload evenly, improving propulsive efficiency and reducing vibrations that could damage the transmission system. Its right rotation (clockwise rotation when viewed from the stern) is essential to guarantee correct joint operation with engines configured for this rotation, avoiding loss of thrust and premature wear of the internal components of the reducer.

When to replace this part?

The propeller requires regular visual inspection, especially after sailing in areas with vegetation, rocks or shallow waters where the risk of impact is high. Symptoms of wear include abnormal vibrations during navigation, progressive loss of maximum speed, excessive fuel consumption or inability to reach normal engine revolutions even with full throttle. It is recommended to check the condition of the blades (cracks, deformations, erosion) at least once a year before the navigation season, and after any impact or grounding. Preventatively replacing a damaged propeller avoids subjecting it to unbalanced forces that could compromise tailshaft alignment and lead to costly repairs in the shop.
