Function and Technical Context

The AMITA3 aluminum propeller with a diameter of 9.30 inches, pitch of 11 inches and right-hand rotation occupies the most critical position in the propulsion system: it is the element that directly transforms the rotational energy of the tail shaft into hydraulic thrust on the water. Its three-blade design is optimized for 9 HP outboard motors in the Johnson and Evinrude ranges, where the balance between diameter and pitch determines that the motor operates within the RPM range for which it was designed. An incorrect pitch propeller on these engines causes either over-stress of the bevel gear set due to insufficient load, or over-revving that accelerates wear of the bearings and oil seals of the shaft. Manufacturing in aluminum alloy offers an appropriate stiffness-to-weight ratio for small vessels in coastal, river and inland waters, being the direct replacement reference for parts identified as 0174817 and 0778773 in the BRP EPC catalog.

When to Replace This Part?

The most reliable symptoms indicating that the propeller has reached the end of its service life are: perceptible vibration in the shaft or on the transom at any rotation speed, notable reduction in planing speed or inability to achieve the planing point with the usual load, and excessive cavitation visible in the wake along with loss of throttle response. Aluminum blades are especially vulnerable to dents, bends and micro-cracks after contact with sandy bottoms, rocks or fouled lines; even a small deformation on the leading edge alters the effective pitch and generates dynamic imbalance that subjects the damping bushing, lip seal and propeller shaft to stresses beyond design limits. Detailed visual inspection is recommended at the beginning and end of each boating season, and immediate replacement upon any structural deformation: timely intervention prevents a low-cost propeller damage from resulting in repair of the lower gearcase of the outboard.
