This element works in the engine cooling circuit, controlling when the coolant must circulate through the radiator or heat exchange core to dissipate the heat generated during combustion. A defective or stuck thermostat causes engine overheating, accelerated wear of internal components, loss of power and, in extreme cases, engine seizure or water entry into the combustion chamber, situations that can result in very expensive repairs and compromise navigation safety.
