Beschreibung

Funktion und technischer Kontext

The reinforced Ø70 mm aluminum rudder disc anode is a cathodic protection element specifically designed to be installed on the rudder disc of boats with motor or sail propulsion. Its function is to act as a sacrificial anode, oxidizing in a controlled manner to protect the metal parts of the rudder - shaft, disc and stainless steel or bronze accessories - against galvanic corrosion caused by electrolysis in sea or brackish water. As it is a reinforced model, it offers a greater mass of active material compared to standard anodes of the same size, which prolongs its useful life and guarantees longer-lasting protective coverage in areas of high electrolytic activity. Correct cathodic protection of the rudder is critical: a corroded rudder can compromise the maneuverability of the vessel and generate high-cost repairs in the shipyard.

Wann muss dieses Teil ausgetauscht werden?

Sacrificial anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their volume, when their protective capacity decreases significantly. In vessels that remain in the water continuously or in ports with high electrical conductivity—especially installations with eddy currents—it is advisable to check the condition of the anode every two or three months. Preventively replacing the rudder disc anode before it is completely depleted prevents galvanic corrosion from attacking the rudder shaft and metal disc itself, which can result in very high-cost structural repairs.
