Function and technical context

The water pump body is the main structural component of the seawater cooling system in Suzuki outboard engines. It houses and contains the rubber impeller, channeling the flow of water captured from the bottom of the foot into the internal passages of the engine to dissipate the heat generated during combustion. Its integrity is essential: any crack, erosion or deformation in the body compromises the tightness of the circuit, drastically reducing the cooling flow and exposing the propellant to severe overheating. As it is the casing that supports the rotational stress of the impeller, a body in poor condition also accelerates premature wear of the other internal components of the pump.

When to replace this part?

The most common signs of a deteriorated water pump body are the loss of water jet through the control nozzle, overheating of the engine with activation of the temperature pilot, or the appearance of friction marks and visible grooves on the inner surface of the body after removing the foot. It is recommended to inspect the pump body every time the impeller is serviced, an interval that manufacturers usually place between 200 and 300 hours of operation or once a season in intensive use. Taking advantage of this disassembly to assess the condition of the body and replacing it if it shows wear prevents serious breakdowns due to lack of cooling while sailing.
