Function and technical context

The propeller anode for Ø68 mm shaft of Ferretti boats is a cathodic protection element specifically designed to be installed on the transmission shaft, acting as a sacrificial electrode against galvanic corrosion. Made of zinc (ZN), its mission is to protect the noble metallic components of the propulsion assembly - propeller, shaft, horn and other submerged elements - by absorbing electrochemical corrosion that inevitably occurs when different metals coexist in sea or brackish water. Without this anode in correct condition, corrosion directly attacks the shaft and propeller, which can cause pitting, structural weakening and, in advanced cases, breakage of the shaft during navigation or loss of the propeller. The reference REC9440 is sized with the inner diameter of Ø68 mm for a precise fit on the propulsion shafts of Ferretti series boats, guaranteeing optimal electrical contact and an adequate sacrificial surface for the protection of the submerged transmission system.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, have a very irregular surface, have been consumed unevenly or show signs of accelerated depletion. A depleted or missing anode is indirectly evidenced by pitting on the shaft, color changes on the surface of the propeller, or visible corrosion on the coupling cone. The standard technical recommendation is to replace all the anodes of the propulsion system at each annual grounding, without waiting for them to be completely consumed, since the cost of the anode is minimal compared to the repair or replacement of a shaft or propeller damaged by galvanic corrosion.
