Function and technical context

The NGK PZTR5A-15 spark plug is an iridium type ignition element that generates the electrical spark necessary to ignite the air-fuel mixture within each cylinder of the petrol outboard or inboard engine. It belongs to the ignition system and works closely with the high-voltage wiring, the coil and the engine management unit. The iridium electrode technology incorporated in this NGK reference guarantees a more precise and long-lasting spark compared to conventional nickel spark plugs, which translates into more efficient combustion and cleaner engine response at any speed. For marine engines that use iridium spark plugs such as the PZTR5A-15, NGK recommends checking them at each seasonal maintenance and replacing them at the interval indicated by the engine manufacturer, generally every 100 hours of navigation or at least once a year in intensive use. Replacing the spark plugs preventively before they fail completely avoids unforeseen breakdowns at sea and preserves the calibration of the injection and ignition system.
