The most common symptoms that indicate the need to replace a hose fitting are the appearance of moisture or visible dripping in the area of ​​the threaded connection, visible deformation or corrosion on the support faces and the thread, and progressive loosening that is not corrected with tightening, a sign that the thread is compromised. It is recommended to visually inspect all hose fittings and couplings at each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to those installed in high vibration areas or directly exposed to seawater. Preventively replacing a fitting in poor condition during a port inspection avoids breakdowns with much more costly – and potentially dangerous – consequences during navigation.
