Description

Function and technical context

This aluminum sacrificial anode with an oval shape and dimensions 200ר70 mm is designed to be welded directly to the hull or submerged metal structures of the boat, acting as active galvanic protection. Its function is to sacrifice itself electrochemically in place of the noble metals of the set—steel, bronze, structural aluminum—by constituting the less noble pole in the galvanic pair that forms in seawater or brackish water. Without effective cathodic protection, galvanic corrosion attacks propellers, shafts, rudders, keels and hulls with an aggressiveness that can compromise the structural integrity of the vessel in a single season. The aluminum alloy used in this anode makes it especially suitable for marine and brackish waters, where it offers uniform dissolution and stable protection potential throughout its useful life.

When to replace this part?

The clearest indicator that the anode needs to be replaced is a reduction in mass of 50% or more compared to the initial size: when the anode has consumed half of its material, its protection capacity decreases drastically and adjacent metals are exposed to corrosion. Visually, a very irregular surface, cracked or with lime deposits that prevent electrical contact are also signs of immediate replacement. The professional recommendation is to inspect the anodes at each seasonal stranding and replace them preventively at the beginning of each nautical season, since an anode exhausted during navigation can result in severe damage to the shaft or propeller, with repairs costing much higher than the anode itself.
