A worn, corroded or broken terminal compromises the throttle response and can prevent the correct gear change, creating risky situations in docking maneuvers or navigation in difficult waters. The most common symptoms of failure in a remote control cable terminal are excessive play in the accelerator, difficulty engaging or disengaging gears, irregular or jerky response to the remote control, and in advanced cases complete breakage of the terminal that leaves the engine without control from the console. It is recommended to inspect this component during each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to signs of galvanic corrosion, deformation or cracks, common in saline marine environments. Replacing the terminal preventively in the event of any sign of deterioration avoids being left without engine control at sea, with the cost and risk that this implies.
